Go-ahead for €12m housing scheme on boggy Offaly land Reporter: ); ); THE long-awaited 38-unit social housing project for Raheen in Clara got the go-ahead from the County Council on Monday. Councillors warmly welcomed the scheme, saying its mix of housing types will help take some of the pressure off the public housing waiting list. Disappointment was expressed however, at the failure of the plan to include a sewerage scheme link for existing residents and the absence of a roundabout at the entrance. Housing officer John Cunningham said the Raheen development is the largest of its type outside Tullamore in over 30 years. ....
Anger over Lough Boora bike rental spills on to the airwaves on Liveline Reporter: ); ); The anger and public outcry over the bike rental license for Lough Boora Parklands has spilled on to the national airwaves. On Wednesday s programme on RTE 1, people from the area took to the airwaves to defend Pat Barrett who set up the bike rental in Lough Boora 11 years ago. Pat set up the business from scratch but after a tendering process last year, the license has been given to Phoenix Bikes, a company run by Dublin footballer Conal Keaney. The local man found out last Friday that he had lost the license. ....
Offaly County Council buying up vacant properties in county with Compulsory Purchase Orders Reporter: ); ); Three compulsory purchase orders have been completed to date on vacant properties by Offaly County Council. Replying to a query from Cllr Clare Claffey at this month s meeting of the local authority, the county council outlined how as part of the planning team plan for 2021 Vacant and Derelict sites have been given “priority” status. “An internal working steering group has been established between Housing and Planning on this matter and have met on a number of occasions to discuss the way forward. “Three successful CPOs have been completed to date by Housing on vacant properties and future works will proceed subject to availability of resources,” the reply outlined. ....
