A construction accident killed a colfax man this afternoon. The worker was inside a trench in altoona when it collapsed around him. Channel 13s Jodi Whitworth is following this story. She joins us know with more Justin Jorgensen was just 30 years old. He lived in colfax but worked at jrs excatving in saint charles. Family friends tell us today was supposed to be an exciting day for him. After work he was throwing a Birthday Party for his four year old son Authorities Say jorgensen was working to install water and sewage lines in a trench when the dirt caved in around him. Crews estimate the pit was about 10 to 12 feet deep and it did not have a trench wall to brace its sides. They also said the dirt and clay was extremely unstable. Under osha regulations , in trenches deeper than five feet trench walls are required. When crews arrived on scene they said jorgensen was partially buried but knew they couldnt save him.
