United Way has done amazing work in Martin County
I recently received a copy of the 2020 Community Impact Report from the United Way of Martin County, and was amazed at what they accomplished last year. In addition to their traditional financial support for some 47 local programs, the United Way was active in a number of COVID-19 relief programs. Their special drive for donations raised $280,000 for direct assistance to families in need as a result of impacts of the virus on their families.
In addition, because of their expertise in distributing funds to the needy, the United Way was asked by the Martin County Board of Commissioners to distribute some $664,000 of federal funds to households and $470,000 to mental health providers. They also distributed some $2,800,000 of CARES Act funds to eligible nonprofits to keep pantry shelves stocked with nutritious food and other products throughout the pandemic period. Large gift to Indian River Community Foundation will have ripple effect
On the same day that federal unemployment benefits were to expire for millions of Americans while a $900 billion aid package sat on President Trump’s desk, Indian River Community Foundation received a gift of $100,000 from a client who wished to remain anonymous. The generous donation came along with a special request that the money be used quickly to help vulnerable individuals and families in our community who may be struggling and need emergency financial assistance.
