According to the Department of Motor Vehicles, in order for California to extend the program allowing clean-air vehicles to use the carpool lanes, Congress must first act by extending the provision.
Select electric, plug-in hybrid and other alternative-fuel vehicles will lose access to the carpool lane starting Sept. 30, 2025, unless federal and state lawmakers act.
