Council approves increased solid waste fee; residents respond

Posted by Jake McElveen The regularly scheduled meeting of the Clarendon County Council opened with the normal formalities, which were quickly followed by the impassioned shouting of Robert McFadden, a seemingly concerned citizen.  For a brief moment, County Council Chairman Dwight Stewart and Robert McFadden talked over each other while McFadden brought up points opposing a recent ordinance, and Stewart asking McFadden to wait until it was the appropriate time for him to address the council.  Once this was settled council continued as scheduled, eventually arriving at the ordinance in question.  Ordinance 2021-03, which heard its third and final reading on Monday night, is as follows:

Update on County Council: 1/11/21

Posted by Jake McElveen Clarendon County Council met for their regularly scheduled January Board Meeting this Monday, Jan 11. The meeting began with the usual pledge, introductory remarks, and invocation, approval of agenda, and approval of minutes.  Moving on from the meetings formalities, the council appointed Arlene Ham to serve an additional term on the Clarendon County Library Board.  After appointing Ham to the board, Council moved on to a public hearing involving Ordinance 2020-10. This ordinance involves the transfer of Clarendon County property to the City of Manning. A process which is simple, but must be carried out formally. All of the property mentioned in the ordinance resides within Manning, and was originally intended to serve as the grounds for the Clarendon County Administration building. However, when plans changed and the location was moved to Sunset Drive, the lot sat vacant. The City of Manning now plans to use the land for the good of the community. How
