A motorist who caused the death of a 13-year-old north Cumbrian schoolgirl by dangerous driving has been jailed for four and a half years. Tony Packenham, 47, also admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving to both the mother of Ingrid Messenger and her 15-year-old sister. The charges came after an accident on February 18 last year on the C1036 at Broadfield Common, near Ivegill, which caused the death of Ingrid Messenger. At Carlisle Crown Court last week, Packenham also admitted a fourth charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice by discarding a dashcam memory card which had recorded his Land Rover Defender travelling at speed in the moments before the fatal collision with the other car.
