Largo Police Department adds two Zero-branded electric motorcycles to its fleet

Largo Police Department adds two Zero-branded electric motorcycles to its fleet 3 June 2021 The Largo Police Department, a nationally-accredited law enforcement department of excellence in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, has added two Zero-branded all-electric motorcycles to its fleet. The addition of two environment-friendly motorcycles to the fleet is part of the police department’s larger goal of having a 100 per cent alternative-fuel light-duty fleet by 2030, which is in line with the City of Largo’s sustainability goal that has been set to help cut to carbon emissions to avert global warming and climate change. According to Largo Police Department Major Ann Starling, the addition of the two electric two-wheelers to the fleet cost the police department a total of $41,000. However, Duke Energy helped by providing the department a grant of $7,000 towards the purchase. Thus, far the city police department’s fleet is mainly comprised of Harley-Davidsons motorcycles. Largo Police's first female major blazing a trail

Police Maj. Ann Starling is the first woman to reach the rank of major in the Largo police department. She graduated from St. Petersburg College’s Southeastern Public Safety Institute in 2004. One of her first law-enforcement posts was inside an igloo-like structure as part of a wilderness adventure program. But life in a snow cave didn’t suit the Florida native. Tampa Bay Newspapers interviewed Starling about her role as an administrator in the department, where she is “fortunate to be surrounded by strong, capable female leaders who inspire me every day, both in the Largo Police Department and the City of Largo as a whole,” Starling said.

LARGO, Fla. - The Largo Police Department is revving up and patrolling the streets on two new all-electric motorcycles, funded in part with a Duke Energy grant. The Largo Police Department is very proud to support the City of Largo s goals to transition to utilizing renewable energy in our fleet of police vehicles. In addition to the Zero electric motorcycles, we have added 23 hybrid Ford Interceptor SUVs this year, said Largo Police Chief Jeffrey Undestad. I am proud of the hard work and collaboration that went into this project that will help ensure Largo s natural environment for future generations.

Largo settles federal lawsuit with environmental groups over wastewater concerns

LARGO — The city of Largo on April 20 agreed to settle a federal lawsuit with three area environmental groups that claim the city’s failed sewage treatment and aging collection system have led to water quality problems in Old Tampa Bay and endangered human health and the environment. City commissioners voted 7-0 to settle the suit brought on by Tampa Bay Waterkeeper, Suncoast Waterkeeper, and Our Children’s Earth Foundation, who said the city was in violation of the Clean Water Act by not adhering to the Department of Environmental Protection’s permit related to the discharge of certain pollutants into navigable waters.
