Alliance community leaders condemn racist graffiti, seek more dialogue

We ve got to have dialogue so that we can move forward, said City Councilwoman Sheila Cherry, D-1. Someone spray-painted hate messages and symbols that were discovered Tuesday at the Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. Viaduct, the YWCA and a building at 78 S. Webb Ave.  Alliance police are investigating the three instances, which they believe are connected. Police have made no arrests, but Sgt. Michael Yarian said detectives believe juveniles are to blame. A witness reported seeing two individuals in the area around the time of the incidents, he said.  Disturbing hate message trend in the Alliance area This is the second time this year hate messages were spray-painted in the Alliance area. The Smith Township home of an Alliance City Schools principal, who is Black, was vandalized with a racial slur in January. Two 15-year-old boys were charged.
