Avedis recognizes, honors Pottawatomie County first responders for service


This week the Avedis Foundation released a proclamation of recognition for Pottawatomie County’s first responders.
The organization’s statement acknowledged the work of law enforcement personnel, firefighters, emergency operators and dispatchers, emergency medical technicians, search and rescue personnel, and those who put others first to protect the community amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our community’s first responders deserve our collective gratitude for their commitment to the life-saving work they do every day, even when doing the job puts them at risk,” Avedis Foundation Board Chair Mark Finley said.
As well as making an official statement to honor first responders, Avedis also is giving them meal tickets and goodie boxes in a gesture of honor for their service. ....

1851 - The Indian Appropriations Act was the name of several acts passed by the Congress. A considerable number of acts were passed under the same name throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. From the outset, the most notable landmark of the acts was the one of 1851.
The official name was the “Appropriation Bill for Indian Affairs,” passed on Feb. 27, 1851. The act allocated funds to move western tribes onto reservations. Reservations were protected and enclosed by the federal government. According to the government at that time, reservations were created to protect the Native Americans from the growing encroachment of whites moving westward. This act set the precedent for modern-day Native American reservations. ....

During a Facebook Live event Wednesday, the Avedis Foundation presented a banner of support to local health care workers; the large sign was covered in signatures and well wishes from the community.
That s not all.
Avedis announced plans to fund the design and construction of a calming space for healthcare professionals at SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital-Shawnee to provide a respite amid the demands of the pandemic.
A 1,700 square-foot Rejuvenation Suite, planned and designed by Rees Associates of Oklahoma City, will offer several features promoting employee wellness, such as a meditation area, yoga stations, massage chairs, relaxing seating areas, a water feature, and a projection wall to recreate sounds and imagery from nature in a soothing ambiance. ....
