Recording Academy Paid More Than a Third of Its $7M Legal Fees to Outside Counsel in 2018

Courtesy of The Recording Academy Firms Greenberg Traurig and Proskauer Rose alone were paid more than $2.5 million, according to the nonprofit’s IRS filing for the 2019 fiscal year. The Recording Academy paid $4,522,077 in legal expenditures from August 2018 to July 2019, according to the nonprofit’s most recent 990 filing with the IRS with 65.6% of that total going to two outside law firms accused by former chairman/CEO Deborah Dugan of receiving “exorbitant” fees.
