President trumps onetime personal attorney and possibly the president himself, the judge has taken the bench. Sentencing has started for Michael Cohen in that federal courtroom here in the city today. Cohen and others involved in the russia investigation will find out just how much turning against President Trump is worth. Cohen pled guilty to nine charges brought by the Justice Department including one from special counsel Robert Mueller. He is looking for leniency for his assistance in multiple investigations. The feds say cohens assistance has tied the president directly to Campaign Finance violations, a felony. Bob muellers team says his assistants also tied the president directly and politically to the russia investigation. The two teams of prosecutors have offered different takes on the level of cohens assistance, though. The Justice Departments Inspector General, Michael Horowitz is set to testify before the Senate Judiciary committee in less than an hour. He is the man behind the newly released 434page report which determined that although the fbi made, quote, serious errors in investigating alleged Trump Campaign ties to russia, the bureau was justified, according to horowitz, in opening the investigation and said there was no evidence that political bias influenced the fbis decisionmaking. Horowitz and his team looked at a million documents, spoke to more than 100 witnesses, and spent 20 months coming to that conclusion, and this morning well hear from him for the First Time Since this report came out.
