Matthew Klein, one of two Oregon brothers accused in the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol, will be released from custody on Friday to a third-party guardian in Baker County, where he will be on home detention and GPS monitoring pending his trial, a judge ruled Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Randolph D. Moss of the District of Columbia granted Klein’s pretrial release to a Baker County couple after refusing last week to allow him to live with his parents.

SALEM â A federal judge on Tuesday, May 4, declined to release college senior Matthew Klein, one of two Oregon brothers accused in the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol, after finding his parents unsuitable to supervise him pending trial.
The ruling came after prosecutors submitted examples of text messages that showed Kleinâs mother and father warning Matthewâs younger brother, Jonathanpeter Klein, that âbraggers get caught.â
Their mother also sent texts to Jonathanpeter Klein warning him that his âphone is not encrypted,â that he should â(b)e careful what (he) say(s)â and that he should âclear (his) phoneâ or that he should â(p)ull a Hillary and use a hammerâ and âbleachâ to destroy the phone, according to court records.
