Government officials testified about the infrastructure needs at recent senate hearing. Good morning. I call this hearing to order. Today we are holding a hearing to highlight the importance of passing a new Water Resource Development act or werda during the 1 is 5th congress. It authorizes funding for the army corps of engineers Water Works Program which need past wedder today provisions. Prior congresses have too additionally passed werda on biannual basis going back to 1986. Unlike other contentious issues, historically, republican and democratic members of this Senate Environmental Public Works Committee, have been able to pass werda legislation. In order to write good legislation we must consider the effectiveness, the status of their implementation as well as our countrys future Water Infrastructure needs. They have jurisdiction over much of the waters infrastructure including locks and dams and inland waterways and ports. Because now is the time were going to actually take a moment and honor many outstanding African Americans who have contributed greatly to the city and county of San Francisco. And as we begin to close out our black History Month, well have an opportunity to reflect not only what weve done this entire month, but also what we did last year and in previous years standing on the shoulders of rosa parkses, dr. And our minds were opened. We were able to support, learn, and be educated in how to stand up for the right things in life. One thing that i can say about the roth family, they didnt stand up for bull s. , that whenever an issue was right, thats what they stood for. Whether it was popular or not popular. A lot of times they caught a lot of heat for it but it didnt matter to them because they believed in doing what was right for the people that were in need of that. It was just again great to see that that name is being honored today.
