Australia announces support Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The Australian Consulate-General, Chennai, has come forward to join hands with India in its fight against COVID-19. It announced support to the Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore, to set up additional beds and CabDost, a social enterprise, to feed the needy in south India. According to a statement, the Consulate is providing around ₹15 lakh to help set up a 12-bedded ICU facility at the CMC hospital. The consulate is also providing ₹8 lakh to CabDost, a socially-driven tech-based start up working in the financially advisory space and helping taxi drivers. Sarah Kirlew, Australian Consul General to south India, said Australia was pleased to partner with CMC Vellore and CabDost. “Our funding will help provide essential medical services to those in need, while helping those suffering financially due to the pandemic.”

2 students, 4 teachers +ve; 3 deaths in district

2390 Tribune News Service Ludhiana, February 27 Three patients lost their lives to Covid, while 62 persons tested positive for the virus in the district today. The total positive patients have gone to 27,053, while the death toll now is 1,029. Today’s positive cases included two students and four teachers. The students belong to Government Senior Secondary School, Mullanpur. The teachers who tested positive are from Government School, Pakhowal, GADVASU College, Government School Bhamudi and BCM School, Shastri Nagar. A staff nurse of the Dayanad Medical College and Hospital also tested positive. The three persons who lost their lives today were all males and in the age group 60-80. The patients had been admitted to the Dayanad Medical College and Hospital, Christian Medical College & Hospital and Khanna Nursing Home.

19-year-old youth 'murders' girlfriend in Chittoor

The couple, both college students, eloped a month ago In a gruesome incident, a 19-year-old degree student allegedly murdered a girl with whom he had eloped, in Chittoor district on Tuesday. According to information, the accused, identified as Delhi Babu from Chintamakulapalle village in Puthalapattu mandal, was in a relationship with Gayatri (20) from Thurpupalle village in Penumuru mandal. They eloped and reportedly exchanged vows at a temple on December 11 last year. Police registered a missing case after a complaint was lodged by the girl’s parents. The police then counselled the couple and their parents as Babu was yet to attain the legal age for marriage. The girl, also a student, was handed over to her parents.
