A resolution may be possible in the case against Julian Newton, who is charged with second-degree manslaughter in connection with a fatal hunting accident that occurred in October.
Newton appeared virtually in the Christian Circuit Courtroom of Judge Andrew Self Wednesday, along with defense attorney Mark Gilbert, who informed the court that he’s been in discussion with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and hopes to soon reach a resolution.
Proceedings were continued until March 17. Newton is charged with second-degree manslaughter, first-degree wanton endangerment, taking wildlife from a vehicle and illegal take of a deer.

A trial date has been set for Anshanique Leavell, the woman accused in the fatal shooting of Amareya’ Freeman, after several weeks of attempted negotiations.
Leavell appeared virtually Thursday in the Christian Circuit Courtroom of Judge John Atkins, along with defense attorney Michael Thompson, who not only requested a trial date but also asked that Leavell’s bond be modified, with Leavell intent to follow all conditions of release.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jared Smith argued that nothing has changed since the judge denied the last bond modification request, saying he believes Leavell remains a danger to the community.
