Contrary to their promise as an antiwar and even anticapitalist party, the Greens in Europe, perhaps due to their overwhelming middle and upper middle class membership, have been showing for a couple of decades an increasingly pronounced bourgeois outlook, and a disturbing willingness to play on the globalist side against multilateralist nations. If they become influential in the next German government, they may end up pushing for policies that far outstrip Merkel s in their russophobic and sinophobic content. In a way this was to be expected considering that the Greens have always functioned as a sort of de facto alliance between social democrats, liberals, and bourgeois environmentalists.
