A Chicago man accused of leading police on a foot chase through an Elmhurst neighborhood while unlawfully armed with a stolen gun was ordered held without bail Sunday by a DuPage County judge.
WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a suburban Chicago man has been charged with a hate crime for allegedly spray-painting swastikas on a church. The DuPage County state's attorney's office says 35-year-old Josef Stumpfoll of Wheeling is accused of painting seven swastikas on the windows of Pathway Community Church in Elmhurst last Friday. He has been charged with one felony count each of hate crime and institutional vandalism. Elmhurst police Chief Michael McLean says Stumpfoll is a former member of Pathway Community Church. The Daily Herald of Arlington Heights reports that Stumpfoll is due in court for his arraignment on Jan. 30 in Wheaton.
