A neurological disorder ended his surfing days. Now he’s making waves in disability advocacy. Cook is the co-author of a book about the history of the Cooper River, an advocate for historic preservation, and is becoming an advocate for increasing the ease of access to convenience stores and other retailers by disabled, elderly, and other customers. Having an incurable neurological disorder limits Kevin Cook’s mobility but not his aspirations. Since his diagnosis in 2009, the former surfer has become a historic preservation advocate, coauthored a book about the Cooper River, and had an essay, Finding Zen, published in Brain & Life magazine. He described rediscovering the joy he had known as a surfer, as well as the peace of mind that acceptance can bring.

Chapman is retiring from the Cherry Hill school district after 25 years as an administrator. He has spent 62 years in education. When longtime educator Lawyer H. Chapman retired from the Philadelphia Schools in 1993, he wasted little time moving on to a new assignment. Chapman spent more than six decades as a teacher, principal, and administrator in three districts. He plans to retire after 25 years from the Cherry Hill School District on Dec. 31, possibly for the last time.

2020: From President Trump in Wildwood to American Idols on Haddon Ave
