Long road ahead for flood-weary residents with red and yellow-stickered homes

Supplied Marcus Shenker and Harri Jensen s home in Westport was flooded for the second time in three years. Roche said the town’s recovery would take months, but tradespeople from out of town had already moved in to help local contractors with repair jobs. All district council staff were given Friday afternoon off to rest after their mammoth effort since the floods, she said. There had been $200,000 in public donations to the Buller Mayoral Relief Fund. The free rubbish collection service had been extended until Sunday The NZ Defence Force said its personnel had removed more than 1000 tonnes of flood-related waste from Westport homes so far.

Corner Canyon teacher returns to classroom after beating COVID-19

KSL TV DRAPER – Tuesday was an exciting but nerve-racking day for a Corner Canyon High School teacher who returned to the classroom for the first time since ending up in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Just over four months ago, Charri Jensen was fighting for her life hooked up to a ventilator. But on Tuesday, she walked into her Corner Canyon classroom just after 7 a.m. Home away from home, Jensen said in a coworker s video. I haven t been here in over four and a half months. I love this place. It was back on Sept. 10 when Jensen tested positive for the virus. Days later, she was on a ventilator fighting for her life in the ICU. No one knew if she was going to make it.
