Boys' lacrosse: Teams to watch in southern Maine - Portland Press Herald

Boys’ lacrosse: Teams to watch in southern Maine Cape Elizabeth (Class A) and Yarmouth (Class B) are top contenders for a state title. Share 1. Cape Elizabeth: Ben Raymond’s Capers return as many or more players than any of their Class A competition. Senior attack Archie McEvoy is the playmaker for an explosive offense that features junior midfielders Nic Boudreau, Tiernan Lathrop and Colin Campbell, who each played significant roles as freshmen. Senior attack Oskar Frankwicz and freshman Keegan Lathrop, who scored five goals in his varsity debut, add punch. Seniors Charlie Whitney (goalie) and Gus Huffard (faceoffs) are first-year starters with veteran poise. The defense, led by senior Gavin Simopoulos, is less tested, but Cape has the depth and talent to get past South challengers Thornton Academy and Scarborough.

Boys' lacrosse: Cape Elizabeth wants its crown back - Portland Press Herald

increase font size Boys’ lacrosse: Cape Elizabeth wants its crown back The Capers have been the kings of Maine high school boys lacrosse for more than three decades, but their current players have yet to reach a title game. 15 of 15 Cape Elizabeth senior Archie McEvoy gains control of the ball amongst a crowd of York players during Monday s game at Cape ELizabeth. Brianna Soukup/Staff Photographer The kings want their crown back. By Cape Elizabeth High boys’ lacrosse standards, going three years without a state title appearance – let alone a championship – is an eternity. Never mind that in 2020, there was a pandemic and the season wasn’t even played. It still constitutes a drought for the Capers, and 2021 is the last chance for the current seniors to claim a banner of their own.

From tune-ups to rentals, here's how Malletts Bay Bicycle & Ski will have you ready to roll on the Colchester Causeway this year | News

“There are many different bicycles, and they all have their own application,” said Whitney. “And it was probably when I started to learn how to build wheels that I was able to really create a bicycle that has a particular ride to it. It s more than just a bicycle. It s like an extension of yourself.” Whitney started working at the Skirack in Burlington when he was 16 and spent 10 years there – around a two-year stint in Atlanta – before working on bikes and skis at shops in Richmond, Lake Placid, and Cambridge, Mass. While he says he left Colchester many times since disassembling that first bike, Whitney was always drawn back to his hometown.
