Selectmen receive COVID-19 health update

WILMINGTON — Wilmington’s Board of Health Director Shelly Newhouse shared at the Board of Selectman meeting on Monday night that the current COVID-19 numbers were at exactly 200 positives and over 600 residents in quarantine. This was part of the COVID-19 update given by Newhouse and Fire Chief Bill Cavanaugh. With COVID-19 spreading mostly within households, she explained the numbers reported earlier that day were the result of Thanksgiving gatherings and travel. “One person picks it up and brings it back, and the contacts go from there,” she said. She also reiterated the complexity of contact tracing that makes it a cumbersome process. For that reason, she mentioned the department has hired a few part-time nurses who are taking on a few cases of contact tracing per day.
