He prefers deer carcasses, but will pick up other animals, too, if necessary.
He used to pick them up by hand, but now has a special apparatus attached to the back of his truck originally made for wheelchairs that helps him to lift the bodies into his vehicle bed with minimal mess.
“The goal is to not throw up,” he said.
Falting uses the road kill to feed the hundreds of bald eagles that visit his family’s 80 acres of land on Marion Center Road each year from November through March. His family has owned the property that abuts the winding county road for almost a century and, if lucky enough, passersby can catch a glimpse of one of the majestic raptors feasting on a carefully laid out carcass in the family’s field.
