Police recovered some stolen property when they searched a Hamilton address on Saturday, a statement said. Three men aged 41, 45 and 49 were set to appear in the Hamilton District Court on Monday, jointly charged with burglary. However, police are still looking for the Goldie painting and asking for any information that may lead to its recovery.

The last major artwork by Charles Frederick Goldie was A Noble Relic of a Noble Race, which sold at auction for $1,377,600. This video was first published in April 2016. Looking at a photo of the stolen painting, Webb s auction house head of art Charles Ninow said earlier the piece appeared to be an original worth “well over half a million dollars”.

The work by the colonial-era portraitist went missing between 27 December and 3 January, and police are appealing for information.
The head of art at Webbs Auction House, Charles Ninow, said the best thing the thieves could do for themselves was to hand the painting in.
He said the work is so recognisable they d soon find they won t be able to sell it. I would urge them to return the work and take it back to it s rightful place, and give it back to the owners who care about the work, and have been it s custodians for the last decade.

The country s top dealer in Goldie paintings says a work depicting a late rangatira Māori reported stolen today would be worth well over a million dollars.
Waikato Police are seeking information in relation to the burglary that included a painting titled Sleep tis a Gentle Thing, of Ngāti Maru and Ngāti Paoa chief Hori Pokai, by New Zealand artist Charles Frederick Goldie.
