Alleged burglars arrested but Goldie painting worth 'well over $500,000' still missing

Police recovered some stolen property when they searched a Hamilton address on Saturday, a statement said. Three men aged 41, 45 and 49 were set to appear in the Hamilton District Court on Monday, jointly charged with burglary. However, police are still looking for the Goldie painting and asking for any information that may lead to its recovery. JASON DORDAY/Stuff.co.nz The last major artwork by Charles Frederick Goldie was A Noble Relic of a Noble Race, which sold at auction for $1,377,600. This video was first published in April 2016. Looking at a photo of the stolen painting, Webb s auction house head of art Charles Ninow said earlier the piece appeared to be an original worth “well over half a million dollars”.

Art trader says stolen Goldie a liability to thieves

Photo: Supplied The work by the colonial-era portraitist went missing between 27 December and 3 January, and police are appealing for information. The head of art at Webbs Auction House, Charles Ninow, said the best thing the thieves could do for themselves was to hand the painting in. He said the work is so recognisable they d soon find they won t be able to sell it. I would urge them to return the work and take it back to it s rightful place, and give it back to the owners who care about the work, and have been it s custodians for the last decade.
