Until a week ago, 14-year-old Veeraiah could barely even imagine what the words ‘highway’, ‘traffic jam’, ‘skyscrapers’ or ‘crowds’ meant. Having lived in the remote Palutla village, in the core area of the Srisailem Tiger Reserve nestled deep in the Nallamalla forests all his life, the teenager was a stranger to the ‘strange’ ways of big cities. And yet, here he was in Hyderabad, wide-eyed and wonderstruck, along with 20 other friends from his village, who were equally amazed at the whole big world that opened up to them as they stepped out of their forest for the first time ever.
