Many Central Florida students to return to in-person learning

Tens of thousands of students will be heading back to in-person learning in the new year, despite COVID-19 being even more widespread. Before the new school year began, WESH 2’s Bob Hazen interviewed Nicolas Navarro, who was having his two children start the year in virtual school. He planned for them to go back to face-to-face for the second semester because he believed COVID-19 rates would be more under control.Now, however, he feels it’s still too risky to send them in.“We would not feel like we were doing the right thing with that,” Navarro said.After Christmas break, many children will be going back for the first time.In Orange County, officials expect 18,000 more students in brick-and-mortar schools, while Seminole County says close to 7,500 are returning.The first semester has shown schools are not immune to the virus.
