A man crashed into a utility pole on South Street while allegedly under the influence of alcohol and driving with an unloaded semi-automatic rifle in the back seat.
When police investigating a serious hit-and-run crash asked the driver if he ran into anyone the night before, he said he thought he struck traffic safety sign, police said.
