Show a little love for Mother Nature.
She s always been there to sustain us, and she s been a source of comfort and peace especially during the pandemic, when outdoor pursuits such as gardening, hiking and biking helped keep us sane.
Earth Day is Thursday, April 22, and there are plenty of local events celebrations, concerts, educational programs, cleanups, workdays, recycling to mark the occasion.
Friday, April 16
COD Music Fridays @ Noon: Noon Friday, April 16, online at www.atthemac.org. Alumni Spotlight featuring singer, songwriter, educator Louise Kelly performing her own music as she celebrates Earth Day and shares her story. Free.
Levitt AMP Ocala Music Series: The first in a series of free concerts will be held 7 to 9 p.m. April 16 at Webb Field at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Complex, 1510 NW Fourth St., Ocala. The performer is Sunny War supported by Caly and Megan. This is part of the Levitt AMP Ocala Music Series. Details at ocalafl.org. Sponsorships available.
Raising Koi: On April 16, Sholom Park’s LEAF series of educational events will feature a talk with koi fish farmer Brad Cumton to learn about the history and symbolism of the colorful fish. Event begins at 10:30 a.m. at Sholom Park, 7110 SW 80th Ave., Ocala. Registration required at sholompark.org.
The City of Ocala Municipal Government Ocala Recreation and Parks Department announces Earthfest: Celebrate Arbor Day, Ocala’s Arbor Day celebration, Saturday, April 24, 9am-2pm, at Tuscawilla Park located at 800 NE Sanchez Ave.
Earthfest will offer plenty of activities for adults and kids alike. The popular Youth Fishing Derby will return this year, 9sm to noon. This free event allows youth ages 14 and under the chance to catch and release fish at Lake Tuscawilla. Prizes will be awarded in three age group brackets for catching the most fish and catching the biggest fish. Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment and bait; however, a limited amount of supplies will be available. Registration is not required.
