A Portsmouth police detective testified Monday that he and other officers in unmarked cars began following a stolen vehicle that had been involved in a carjacking in Portsmouth as it drove into a Norfolk cemetery. The officers were attempting to stop the car when the driver, Malachi Elliot, drove toward them, he said.
The criminal complaint, filed by Portsmouth police, says a detective shot 18-year-old Malachi Elliott after the detective said Elliott drove a stolen vehicle at him.
Malachi Elliot was shot six times by Portsmouth police after detectives said he drove a stolen vehicle in their direction. Elliot has since been released from the hospital and a family member said he didn't try to hurt officers.
