Best Things To Do In Historic Helena, Montana

Montana’s capital, Helena (pronounced HELL-in-a), is set among the Rocky Mountains along Interstate 15, roughly midway between Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. It started with a gold rush in 1864 and became known as the Queen City of the Rockies because of its grand architecture. In its early days, Helena had 50 millionaires. Some of their Victorian mansions still stand. Helena’s cathedral, art and history museums, and capitol also speak to the city’s rich history. Hiking, boating, and soaking in hot springs round out an amazing day in Helena. Here are 16 incredible things to do in historic Helena, Montana: 1. Get An Overview

My previous two columns were devoted to accounts of the impact of the great Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1918—which extended through 1919 and the first four months of 1920—in Lake Geneva. During 1918, prior to the end of World War I on November 11, 1918 (“Armistice Day”), many of the war-related newspaper articles were about or by Lake Geneva soldiers serving in France. In 1919, the

Owen Sound's St. Mary's rectory demolition to start soon

Article content The St. Mary’s and the Missions Catholic parish anticipates receiving a permit any day now to demolish its historic 148-year-old rectory in Owen Sound and make way for the construction of a new, accessible church residence. Neil Devlin, the parish’s building committee chair, said asbestos abatement work in the now-vacant rectory, next to St. Mary’s Church, is complete and a contractor has been chosen to tear down the building. Owen Sound s St. Mary s rectory demolition to start soon Back to video “The contractor is ready and waiting to go as soon as we get this permit from city hall, which is hinging on one more bit of information they require,” he said Wednesday.
