DCT drills Kasungu Journalists in covid-19 fight

Journalists operating in Kasungu District have been urged to report passionately about Covid 19 pandemic related issues by a non-governmental organisation known as Development Communication Trust (DCT) a press conference held at Kasungu on last week on Thursday. DCT Social behaviour change program manager Edna Bvalani said journalists have the power to change people’s mindset on covid-19 pandemic fight including encouraging them to take the jab. DCT urges journalists to report passionately about Covid-19 Bvalani said, the community need to adopt and sustain positive behaviours which prevent the further spread and transmission of the virus. “As DCT, we have embarked on the sensitization campaign where we want the community in Malawi to be in forefront demanding Covid-19 vaccine and live positively on their own in a bid to arrest the pandemic,” said Bvalani.

Kasungu hospital run out of oxygen for Covid-19 patients, nurse dies

January 20, 2021 Tiwonge Kumwenda Mhango – Nyasa Times 10 Comments Kasungu district hospital  authorities have lamented that treating Covid-19 patients at the facility is now a threat because of severe oxygen shortages. One of the wards at Kasungu District Hospital The hospital spokesperson Catherine Yoweli said currently the facility have two empty oxygen cylinders only despite the rising cases of the virus. According to her, the facility lost one of its nurse diagnosed with Covid-19 due to the same problem. “What we do is that we send such patients to Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe which is about 130 kilometers away,” she said. Yoweli then asked for a help from well-wishers, saying the problem is “urgent.”

Covid tests at Lilongwe Girls Secondary School Yesterday, Lilongwe girls secondary school registered in total 137 positive cases. Minister of Education Agnes Nyalonje said yesterday the testing exercise continues this morning. Meanwhile, the Presidential Taskforce on Covid 19 is appealing for calm as it works on finding ways to curb the spread of the virus in learning institutions. This follows the commotion that ensued at Lilongwe Girls Secondary School when parents and guardians demanded that the school releases their children who tested positive.
