Cville Launches Green Business Alliance

Credit RadioIQ The Green Business Alliance is a diverse group with members providing everything from medical and financial services to catering, legal aid and rock band representation, but two founding members come from surprising sectors.  Liza Borches is with Carter Myers Automotive.  “We have installed solar on four of our dealerships, she says. We were the first dealership to be fully powered by the sun in the state.” They recycle waste oil and filters, and expect to be selling many more electric cars. “I think it’s 91 new EVs that are coming in the next two years,” Borches says. Gordon Sutton is preparing for that change.  He’s president of Tiger Fuel, where demand for gasoline is flat.  “A lot of that’s being driven by the pandemic, he says, but especially in the Charlottesville community you see a lot of EVs, and so we’re starting to install EV chargers.”

(WWBT) - The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t stopped community members and a national non-profit from making children’s wishes come true this holiday season. Make-A-Wish of Greater Virginia and CMA’s Colonial Subaru made sure to grant a Chesterfield teen her wish this holiday season in a safe way. For 15-year-old Eliza McVicker, this pandemic has been a challenge, but it’s not a challenge they haven’t been through before.

COVID-challenged Toy Lift accumulates more than 7500 toys

COVID-challenged Toy Lift accumulates more than 7500 toys Photo: WINA CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – In a very COVID-different effort for 2021, Toy Lift President Dave Farfara calls the response this year “phenomenal” in one of the most challenging years ever. Farfara says they collected more than 7500 toys that will help more than 1800 families have a Christmas this season. He says that’s a bit less than previous years, and they were unable to do the promise this year of a bike for every recipient, but this was a year where they had to “think outside of the box” to execute the initiative. Farfara said they have to run a skeleton staff, and had to do a different collection effort than the Toy Lift day they’ve had in the past. He says management at Fashion Square Mall were generous enough to allow use of the old Sears Automotive Center enclosure for the entire month. And the after-Thanksgiving collection was a solid week from Black Friday to the next Friday from 9am-to-
