the clinics have traditionally for 12 years worked on the care transformation and focused on that level. in february of 2012, we became an aco and we will have over 200,000 patients in and 1800 providers. we had rapid growth and that s a challenge to sustaining this. we have been successful and as an aco and surprisingly so. in the interim report, we did not save money for medicare and we did by a lot. so with that it kind of was the accumulation of a good year in the commercial and governmental setting and also with our own employers and employees. we have an initiative working direct low with them going on as part of this work. part of the reason kind of taking off about this is here and it s here to stay. one of the reasons we were successful is we have been saying that my leader who many of you probably know said that for ten years. we have been planning and i would add for those of you in the service world like we are in iowa, you don t have to wait. you can do it now an
future of her party s leadership. we have a lot of talented younger members. it s not just, by the way, mrs. pelosi. i think she s been a great leader. and she is really good at raising money. that s not one of my fortes. i was never good at that. but they have to start training younger people and bring younger people into the caucus, to become hopefully the future leaders. one of the things that i certainly believe with all my heart and soul, you have to know when to leave. and nancy obviously does not feel that this is the time to leave. many of us thought that she might stay for, you know, maybe this coming year. hopefully turn the reins over to somebody else. but when i look around, is anybody really ready to replace her. i mean, it s a hard job. i give her a lot of credit for what she s been able to do. but i think it s time that the leaders stop looking at who s going to fill my spot. we re all replaceable. there might be some bumps in the road. but i do always believ
have not had the direct testimony of those affected by it and those who represent some who are affected by it. and so that s what this hearing was before. the fact that some senators have left, don t let that bother you. mark-ups are unusual. and that s why they had to come because they re all 13, and they had to go do something else, but you re the point of all this. i want that to be very, very clear to you. so as i said, very glad to welcome four witnesses who will help us understand firsthand the consequences of the instances and what they had to go through. yoig this is not an easy subject to talk about, let that be said, okay, so that it s painful. and however you reflect that pain, the committee understands it. welcomes it, joins you in, you know, the difficulty of coming up here and testifying before a senate committee. although it s really not that difficult after all. the cruise industry, i m happy to say, is not happy that i m holding this hearing. they re very unh
once resuscitated, we were instructed to leave the ship. we did not have the option to stay. my father went to his room with personnel to pack his bags and carnival sent their personnel into my room to gather my belongings. they made us stay on the gangway and after we got off of the water taxi, we had to wait on an ambulance to come and get her. one carnival employee accompanied us but no arrangements were made with customs to expedite us as a medical emergency. we were all processed as tourists, including my comatose mother. the carnival employee gave my father the telephone number for the port authority and left us completely alone in a foreign country to find our own way to transport my mother back to the united states for additional medical treatment. carnival s current contract states that they are not responsible or liable for anything involving the welfare or safety of its passengers. the company makes no assurances that a physician will be available on a cruise. and
