Cases have continued to decline in Glasgow THE decline of Covid levels in Glasgow has continued to gather pace, the latest figures show.  A total of 707 people tested positive for the bug in the city between February 27 and March 5, down from 781 in the previous seven day period.  This is just slightly more than a 10% fall and saw Glasgow record 111.7 cases per 100,000 population at a rate of 5.3%.  However, this remains nearly double the levels per 100,000 of the country as a whole, where 62.7 cases were registered under the same measurement.  Neighbouring council areas, including East Dunbartonshire (41.4 per 100,000), North Lanarkshire, 104), and Renfrewshire (70.4) all saw lower rates than the city

The seven-day total is the third week in a row where positive testes cases have dropped by around 400 compared to the week before. In Glasgow, the statistics for the seven days up to January 29 showed there had been 1319 positive tested cases. It is a reduction of 380 from the previous seven-day total and more than 1000 fewer than in the first week of the year when the total was 2515.

The latest statistics show that in the seven days up to January 8 there had been another 2470 positive tested cases across the city. The number took the city through the 2000 mark and was another big rise from the 1915 recorded in the previous week, up to January 1. It is the third consecutive rise in the weekly figures for Glasgow since December 18 when there were 950 positive tests registered in the week.

The city however was lower than some other cities and council areas. Aberdeen City and Dundee were both higher at 166 per 100,000 each. While north and South Lanarkshire were also higher at 166 and 168, respectively. Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire were also higher at 179 and 164 respectively. East and West Dunbartonshire were lower than Glasgow at 121 and 124 respectively. The area in Glasgow with the highest number of positive tested cases in the week up to Christmas was Darnley West with 38 positive cases reported. It had a positivity rate of higher than 400 per 100,000. The other highest areas were Darnley North, with 19 and Carnwadric West with 18. The here highest areas are shown as the darkest shade of purple on the map.
