90-year-old man dies after being left in van outside of Mesa retirement home

MESA, AZ â Officials are investigating after a 90-year-old man was found dead in a transport van outside of his retirement home in Mesa Thursday afternoon.
Mesa police say one of their officers on patrol was alerted to the van by a worker at the Canyon Winds Retirement Facility.
The worker told officers they found the man dead inside the transport van, and responding crews confirmed the man dead on the scene.
Workers at the facility are currently being interviewed, police say.

A man was found dead inside a transport van on Thursday morning on the property of a retirement community, according to Mesa police.
The man, identified as 90-year-old Lawrence Bearse, was discovered inside a transportation van by a staff member of the Canyon Winds Retirement Community.
Upon finding Bearse, the employee flagged down a patrol officer at about 11:15 a.m., said police Detective Steve Berry. The officer entered the van and found an older man inside who appeared to be dead.
Paramedics later confirmed Bearse’s death.
The Canyon Winds Retirement Community, located near Loop 202 and McDowell Road, offers upscale independent and assisted living residences, as well as a facility for Alzheimer’s patients and others with memory loss.
