Wedding bells will start rippinging on july 24th. there s so many businesses associated with weddings. you have florists. you have cake decorators. you have caterers. i think it s going to be fantastic for new york city. so what are they expecting the impact to be obviously in new york city and obviously new york state? new york state does not have a residency requirement for marriage licenses so they are expecting same-sex couples from all over the state and the country to come here to tie the knot, and that will lead to a big financial windfall for the state initially. it s estimated that new york state will bring in more than $400 million in the next three years as that backlog of couples that have been waiting years and sometimes decades to get married are finally able to do so. that will be an initial bump that will level off over time, but we re talking about a lot of couples over the next couple of years. it s estimated that 60,000 same-sex couples will be getting married.
