By Lee Sun-ho Ancora imparo is an Italian phrase meaning Yet, I am learning. It is often said to have been uttered by the great Renaissance genius, Buonarroti Michelangelo (1475-1564), the Florence-born sculptor, poet, painter, and architect, supposedly at the ripe age of 87.
As usual, learning is the process of widening and deepening new understanding, knowhow, behaviors, values, and performances. Lifelong human learning starts from birth and continues to the death bed, resulting from the influence of interactions between people and their environment. Ancora imparo may occur consciously or unconsciously. A human being s central nervous system is said to be sufficiently developed and primed from prenatal learning, for memory to occur as early as 32 weeks into pregnancy until the remaining twilight years of one s lifetime. Memory develops through dealing with struggles to overcome any crisis and challenge to one s active and promising life.
