BENGALURU: When Sonali Rathod, state topper in BSc nursing, walked to the stage to receive two gold medals from the President of India during the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences convocation, it was a proud moment for the gritty girl who fought the odds to taste success.
The daughter of construction labourers living in a small katcha house at Vele in Maharashtra, Sonali studied hard in the hope of earning a job to ensure a better life for her family.
