we brought you through mornings on 2 . a police shooting in san jose. police shot a man who they say was attacking his mother with an ax this morning. the 9 s janine de la vega live at the scene after talking with police just now. janine. reporter: yes, it is hard for police to make sense of all this. a son attacking his mother. let me show you what the scene looks like. a heavy police presence here. we know that officers were called from all over the city to respond here on lancing. this is right near jarvis close to almaden elementary school. there are detectives here interviewing witnesses who apparently saw a 26-year-old man start hitting his mother with an ax. now, there was two officers who had responded initially to this scene. it unfolded at about 7:10 this morning. and as they were driving up, they got out, they knew there was some sort of domestic incident happening and they actually did also see the suspect swing an ax at his mother. they then said they were f

(applause) our next and final commendation for the day will be provided by supervisor mar, who i understand has a number of commendations. thank you, president chiu. as many people know, this past sunday was the one-year anniversary of the tragic crash, asianic errol flight 214 crash from july 16, 2013, and i m humbled to be here with five amazingly courageous he roic heroic airfield security officers from our san francisco airport. and before i call them up here to come accept these commendations,
others. alexis is an 11 year vet with the s.s. airport. he carried three people off the plane and stayed with them, stayed with an elderly woman who could not move a safe distance from the plane ~ and he stayed with her regardless, even though there is the danger of explosion occurring right by him. he risked his life to save others. ryan horn is a 14 year veteran airfield security officer. he helped to coordinate the actions of all the airfield security officers. i believe there s about 20 at the airport, but these five were really critical in helping to save lives. and lastly, number five is bernardo magana who discovered and sought help for critically injured flight attendants and he s been serving at s.f. security officer 12 years. all these airfield security officers provided a great service and are deserving of our appreciation from our city of san francisco. they risked their lives to help save others and on behalf of the san francisco board of supervisors and our city
