Holy wells have been an important feature of life in Ireland for many centuries (and probably millennia), and are still popular sites of local pilgrimage and folklore, with many visitors still holding the belief that the waters are capable of healing all sorts of ailments.
Trinity hydrologist Dr Bruce Misstear, who contributed to the just-published 2022 United Nations World Water Development Report, talks about the importance of this precious resource.
