The newly appointed Broward School Board on Wednesday said it wants to push harder to become an A district, something that hasn't happened in more than a decade. Right now, Broward is at a B. School Board Chairman Torey Alston pointed to 2018-2019 numbers, compared to 2021-22, and said his "heart is aching." The last time Broward was at an overall A was in 2011.
Three of Gov. Ron DeSantis' replacement members of the Broward School Board have roots in county Republican politics. The governor has now appointed five of the nine School Board members in the heavily Democratic county.
