Subscriber only The Sunshine Coast is set to become a major piece of the Olympic puzzle with four competition venues and an athletes day village slated for the region. It comes after the International Olympic Committee named Brisbane as the preferred host of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The announcement gives the Brisbane bid and the Australia Olympic Committee a 12-month window of exclusive negotiation with the committee to secure the hosting rights. Feasibility assessment documents revealed four venues were planned for the region, including Alexandra Headland, for road cycling, marathon and race walk, while kiteboarding was also set to be held at Alexandra Headland beach.
