Mary Means Business: Farmstead Restaurant officially closes

After nearly a decade, Farmstead Restaurant has officially closed.
The home-style restaurant at 142 S. McCrary Road announced its closure on social media earlier this week. Though some area businesses and big box retailers announced closures over the past year due to COVID-19, that was not the case for owners Sandra and Paul Reeves.
“Our customer numbers have been fantastic, even better than pre-COVID,” Sandra said. “… We are working with a low number of staff, and the ones that have been faithful have become burned out.”
Some employees have also been forced to take leave to tend to aging and sick parents, she added. Unfortunately, rehiring and retraining an entirely new staff just wasn’t in the cards for the Farmstead Restaurant.

Mary Means Business: Mississippi DJ Events opens in Columbus

Mississippi DJ Events officially opened in February in Columbus.
Although the DJ company is new to Columbus, owner Charles Akujobi is no stranger to Mississippi. He first opened the company in Oxford in 2015, before the airman was reassigned to Texas. Just recently, he was reassigned again to Columbus Air Force Base and said simply: he’s ready to stay.
“I’ve been stationed in Mississippi three times,” Akujobi said. “The state is very near and dear to my heart. I love the atmosphere, the southern hospitality, the food, the sports, just everything. I just wanted to call it home. … We are here to stay. We’re committed to Mississippi and we’re here for the long-haul.”
