It is massive. Wider than the state of florida, and bringing top winds of 130 Miles Per Hour. Heres the very latest on the storm. Overnight the path shifted slightly, putting floridas west coast in peril. Of course, storm surge from the east to the west coast is a huge concern this morning. Cuba and the bahamas are feeling irmas effects right now. The storm made landfall in cuba overnight as a category5 storm. Already at least 23 people have been killed in the car
That he was a student at st. Joes prep. And an overnight blaze damaged a popular restaurant. Two dogs also died in the blaze. Katherine scott has the latest from the scene in queens village. Intense flames raged on the 200 block of south street. Tearing through bridgity foys restaurant. It was reported at 1 15 a. M. The flames could be seen from blocks away. See the smoke everywhere and came to look. Smoke billowing out all the windows. More than 100 firefighters responded and started with an interior attack and pulled out of the building because of Poor Visibility and the threat of interior collapse. It got deep inside of the basement of this restaurant and they made a good decision to pull out and make an exterior attack. They worked to prevent the spread of fire to other buildings some filled with smoke and water. For hours firefighters concontinueded with flairups and next door was damaged and two dog theres died. Lets take a look at satellite and this is the Weather Center and you can see that theres a little bit of cloud cover out there and we do have a bit of a precipitation maker down in delaware. This is mostly now north of dover and just to the south of smyrna. There was a heavier cell highlighted in yellow that is beginning to fall off the map now so there you see it. Actually thats some red there, too, sort of a heavier downpour. One thing ill say about these is even though theyre not producing heavy downpours right now theyre moving very slowly so if you get this caught on top of you its going to stick around. Laurel, new jersey. A tractor trailer accident where a pedestrian was actually walking down the highway and was struck because of this. 295 northbound now as a result is closed between route 70 and route 38. At least youll see some scattered Police Activity on either end of that. For right now, a big stretch of that headed northbound, of course, is closed without letting any traffic by.
