Coming off of an opening weekend sweep, the Washington University baseball team had a three-game weekend against the Coe College Kohawks on Feb. 24 and 25. The Bears squad showed their mantle with back-to-back wins to extend their win streak to five but was handed its first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon.
Baseball is a streaky and superstitious sport – sometimes, all a team needs to improve off of a previous season’s results is a chip on their shoulder. While WashU missed the postseason last year, the building blocks for a sustainable winning future seemed to be in place. WashU baseball is young and hungry this season.
The Washington University baseball team was looking for revenge as it prepared for last weekend’s series against Emory. Last season, the team was swept by the UAA champions, but this year the Bears have been like a completely different team. As the squad headed off to Atlanta to face the first-place Eagles, spirits were high on the field, everything was clicking. A strong performance would not only take the division lead but more importantly, put the Bears in a good position for an at-large playoff bid. Postseason baseball was within reach.
