Jatuporn's meltdown | Political Prisoners in Thailand

13 01 2021 One of the not very well hidden tasks of the regime, sometimes supported by the mainstream media, has been to nitpick at the protest movement and exacerbate divisions and differences. That follows a tested junta tactic of trying to divide and conquer former opponents in Puea Thai and among red shirts. This involved buying off red shirt leaders like the detestable Suporn Atthawong, who has been rewarded with legal cases dropped and lucrative positions. Those turncoats have assisted the military junta to transform into the current post-junta regime. A more activist Jatuporn Over the past couple of months we have watched United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, leader Jatuporn Promphan say some odd things and, finally, have a meltdown. His story is told by a seemingly gleeful Thai PBS.

Jatuporn takes legal action over 'lies'

Jatuporn takes legal action over lies 8 published : 8 Jan 2021 at 06:22 8 Jatuporn Prompan receives flowers from his supporters after being released from Bangkok Remand Prison on Aug 4, 2020. (Photo by Pattarapong Chatpattarasill) Red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan on Thursday asked police to lay more than 200 criminal charges following social media attacks on him in the run-up to last month s local elections. The chairman of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) went to the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) and asked that the charges be filed against those who had either posted false information about him or shared it online. The legal action stemmed from his open support for Boonlert Buranupakorn, a candidate in the Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) election in Chiang Mai during the campaign for the poll.

(Photo from Pichai Lertpongadisorn Facebook page) At least four Pheu Thai Party executives have tendered their resignation from the party s board to avoid any possible political fallout from the Election Commission s (EC) probe into the role of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra in the Dec 20 local elections, said a party source. According to the source, the individuals have also submitted letters to the EC to clarify they have nothing to do with the ex-premier s actions, which could put the main opposition party s future in jeopardy.

Generally, a poor choice?

Chaichan: Appointment bewilders many The latest nomination of a former top army officer to sit on the proposed national reconciliation committee goes against what the panel is trying to achieve, which is to forge unity, say critics. Deputy Defence Minister Gen Chaichan Changmongkol, a former defence permanent secretary, has been put forward for membership of the committee by none other than Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. Gen Chaichan will be one of two government representatives on the proposed reconciliation committee. What some have found to be bewildering is the reason Gen Prayut offered to justify his backing of Gen Chaichan as a unity panellist.
