THE parents of a Cross teenager, who suffered a rare spinal stroke that occurs in an estimated one in three million, have revealed the strong bond he developed with Dublin Gaelic football All-Star, Dr Jack McCaffrey.
There was a real sense of occasion at Dargle Valley Nursing Home in Enniskerry last week, for the 100th birthday of Dorothy Dorrie Trueman.
Her two children, Heather and Philip, eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren are extremely grateful to Nicola Kirk and all the staff for going to great lengths to arrange such a special visit with every precaution in place.
Some of the Dargle Valley staff members came in on their day off especially to see the birthday girl.
Dorothy s granddaughter Nikki Fry of Kilcoole is principal of St Francis National School in Newcastle, where she teaches fifth and sixth classes. The pupils were among those to send cards and messages to Mrs Trueman to mark the special occasion.
