Comedian, Chappelle s Show regular Paul Mooney passes away at 79

In addition to working with Pryor, Mooney wrote for Redd Foxx s Good Times and the first year of Fox s In Living Color. Sam Cooke in the film The Buddy Holly Story and Junebug in Bamboozled, and later became a huge hit on Dave Chappelle s sketch comedy series, Chappelle s Show. On that series, he anchored regular sketches like Ask a Black Dude and Mooney at the Movies. He also portrayed a Black Nostradamus, named Negrodamus, where he ad-libbed hilarious answers to questions on culture. Mooney also weathered controversies. In 2013, just five days after the Boston Marathon bombing, Mooney allegedly said during a performance that “white people in Boston deserved what they got.” Those comments prompted the suburban New York comedy club to cancel his remaining shows. Mooney later denied making the comments.

A Different World, Bowser’s ability to tell our stories and showcase a range of Black experiences has earned her status as the Black Nostradamus of Entertainment. At the age of 28, the Philly-born, Cali-bred creator became the first African-American woman to develop her own primetime series. Living Single became the blueprint for many series, but when networks like NBC used it to create Friends, Bowser catapulted being a creator of color to another level. Now, in addition to executive producing shows like black•ish, she is working alongside Leigh Davenport on Run the World. The new STARZ Original –a half-hour, eight-episode season is equal parts a love letter to Black women friendships as well as Harlem.
