MIDVALE A man who was ejected from his car is in critical condition after his vehicle was hit by a driver attempting to flee police on Wednesday, according to the Unified Police Department.
According to Sgt. Melody Cutler, an officer attempted a traffic stop on eastbound 72nd South and the driver of the vehicle, identified as Clayton Kelly, 26, made a U-turn and began to flee westbound. The officer didn t pursue, but another officer saw Kelly s car pass through a stoplight on 700 West on 7200 South and attempted to spike the vehicle s tires on Bingham Junction, Cutler said.
Kelly went into oncoming traffic to avoid the spikes, hitting another car driving in the opposite direction. Police said that the driver of the car that Kelly hit was ejected and is in critical condition. The driver was the only occupant of the car that was hit.
