media, some kind of concerning post about the mayor or others or new york in general, something caused the security detail to be augmented. that s what i heard. this guy, this shooter has probably had some kind of grievance that he s been on on obsessed with over time. he said ending gun violence means changing gun laws. he s zeroed in on the 400 million guns in this country and that was a lot of the focus of his comments once his youtube started to finally work. just give us your sense of what you heard, what you took from it, listening to all of these officials talking about this investigation. sure, for the mayoral race, one of the big hot button topics was the so-called iron pipeline. this idea getting guns off the
dudes. thurgood marshall was the first person of color to be a supreme court justice, and he won bipartisan potter, as did sandra day o connor, the first woman on the court. but despite her extraordinary qualifications, justice jackson will be lucky to get two or three votes from republicans. what does that say to you about the way that this confirmation process now in the modern era place out for supreme court justices? it suggests that we re going backwards. and this is actually not just politics, because judge jackson isn t going to save a woman s right to choose or affirmative action. the supreme court already has six hard-right conservatives. so on the big hot-button issues, all she s going to be doing is writing a lot of dissenting opinions. hallie, donald trump got three opportunities to stack the court with judicial ideologues who have been waiting for this moment for decades.
culture warrior, you haeeard a t of talk about critical race theory, even though it s not taught in schools, talking about race more generally, talking about transgender issues. there s an issue in loudoun county, one of the suburban counties in northern virginia, there was an issue about transgender students in bathrooms that became a big hot button. he talked about, you know, covid-19 and mask requirements and kids going back to school and what they should and shouldn t do. he took this whole sort of bucket and made it about culture. this is really about our parents and parents getting the say. you heard it in his victory speech. this is about parents having their say in his education. it looks somewhat easy in re retrospect, it s not. glenn youngkin is the first to walk this line, between keeping trump happy, and not alienating sub suburbanites and can other
republican appointees, seems poised to use it to undermine and perhaps overturn roe vs. wade, the 1973 decision that established a constitutional right to abortion. and barred states from banning the procedure before fetal viability. tom goldstein, a lawyer who argues frequently before the court, and publishes the website scotus blog tells nbc news we re at an inflection point. i think we re going to look back at this as the year in which conservatives really did fully take over the supreme court and american constitutional law, where they got what they were really looking for on the big hot button issues that affect all of americans lives. this is what abortion rights advocates, civil rights advocates, gun control advocates, the list goes on and on, warned about. with the ex-president s appointments of three very conservative justices to the u.s. supreme court. it s under these circumstances that the supreme court now holds its lowest approval rating,
