UPM Raflatac steps up to fight pollution in the French Broad River Hendersonville Times-News A Henderson County manufacturer has partnered with MountainTrue, a nonprofit environmental advocacy organization, to fight pollution in the French Broad River. UPM Raflatac has agreed to sponsor MountainTrue’s Volunteer Water Information Network through its Bifore Share and Care grant program, according to a news release. Program volunteers collect water samples from more than 30 sites in the French Broad River water basin every month. A state-certified lab tests for ammonia-nitrogen, nitrate/nitrite-nitrogen, orthophosphate, turbidity, total suspended solids, conductivity, alkalinity and pH levels. Data from the tests are vital to water protection efforts in the area, help MountainTrue stop pollution at the source, and provide information for the policy advocacy initiatives of MountainTrue’s I Love Rivers campaign. ....
